Yellowstone Park Fees: What It Costs to Get In
A private vehicle costs $35 and the pass is good for seven days. A motorcycle is $30 and a person on foot or bicycle is $20, also for seven days. A Yellowstone annual pass is $70. The America the Beautiful annual pass is $80 and covers every federal recreation site in the country, including Grand Teton, which is charged separately. If you are visiting Yellowstone and Grand Teton on the same trip, the $80 pass is cheaper than paying both gates.

Which one to buy
- Yellowstone only, one visit. The $35 vehicle pass. Seven days is more than most people need.
- Yellowstone and Grand Teton. The $80 America the Beautiful pass. Paying both gates is $70, so for $10 more you get every national park in the country for a year.
- Two or more parks this year. America the Beautiful, every time.
- Aged 62 or over. The $80 lifetime senior pass is the best value in American travel.
What the fee does not cover
The entrance fee buys you through the gate and nothing else. Budget separately for:
- Camping. Park campgrounds run roughly $20 to $35 a night, and the reservable ones book out months ahead.
- Backcountry permits. Required for every night out, booked through recreation.gov with a spring lottery.
- Boating and fishing permits. Both separate, both required.
- Winter oversnow travel. Snowcoach and guided snowmobile trips are commercial and cost far more than the gate fee.
Passes are sold at every staffed entrance and online in advance, which is worth doing in July and August because it moves you through the gate faster.
