Best Airport to Fly Into for Yellowstone: All Seven Compared
Bozeman, Montana (BZN) is the right answer for most people: the most flights in the region, and 79 miles to the North Entrance or 89 to the West. Jackson, Wyoming (JAC) is best if you are doing Grand Teton too, at 57 miles from the South Entrance, but fares are high. Salt Lake City (SLC) is almost always the cheapest to fly into and the cheapest to rent a car at, with a 5 hour drive. West Yellowstone (WYS) is closest of all but is a tiny seasonal airport with very few flights.

How to choose
- Flying once, seeing Yellowstone only. Bozeman. The drive is short, the flight options are real, and you can fly into Bozeman and out of Jackson if you want to cross the park.
- Yellowstone and Grand Teton. Into Jackson, out of Bozeman, or the reverse. Driving the parks in one direction beats doubling back.
- Keeping the cost down. Salt Lake City. The five hour drive buys a fare that is often half of Bozeman, and rental cars there cost a fraction of what small mountain airports charge in July.
- East side and Cody. Cody, if the connection works. Otherwise Billings and drive.
- Winter. Bozeman, and plan on Gardiner. Jackson is cut off from Yellowstone by road from November to May.
The rental car point people miss
You need a car. There is no public transport into or around Yellowstone, and the park is 142 miles of loop road with services spread thin. The cost of that car varies enormously by airport. Small mountain airports in peak summer routinely charge two or three times a major hub, and they run out of vehicles entirely on busy weekends. If your dates are in July or August, price the car before you book the flight, because the car can be the bigger number.
