The One Day Plan
Grand Teton rewards an early start more than almost any park on this site, because the light on the mountains is best in the first hour after sunrise and the parking lots at Jenny Lake fill by mid-morning in summer.
- Before sunrise: Get to a pond or a barn on the valley floor while the sky is still dark. Antelope Flats and the Snake River bends are the classic sunrise spots in the park, because the Tetons catch the first light while the foreground stays in shadow. Bring a headlamp; you will be parking in the dark.
- Mid-morning: Jenny Lake. The shuttle boat crosses to the west shore and back, saving a two-mile walk around the lake each way. In the 2026 season (May 15 to September 30) it runs on a first-come, first-served basis, no reservation, with boats about every 10 to 15 minutes. An adult round trip is $20, one-way $15; a child ticket (ages 2 to 12) is $15 round trip; seniors 62 and up pay $18 round trip. Kids under 2 and adults over 80 ride free. From the far shore it is a short, well-marked walk to Hidden Falls and on to Inspiration Point if you want the climb.
- Midday: Signal Mountain. The summit road climbs above the valley floor for a wide view back at the range and out over Jackson Lake. Signal Mountain Lodge and the services around it run May 8 through October 11 in the 2026 season; outside that window plan on the summit road itself rather than food or restrooms up there.
- Afternoon: Work your way back south along the park's main road, stopping wherever the light or the wildlife looks good. Bison and pronghorn are common on the valley floor through the day; moose are more likely near water in the early morning or evening.
- Evening: Jackson. Dinner in town closes the day. The town of Jackson sits just outside the park's south boundary, so this works whether you are staying inside the park or in town.
Grand Teton in Two Days
A second day is where this stops being a highlights reel and starts being a hike. Cascade Canyon, reached from the same Jenny Lake boat dock, is the park's best day hike for the effort: flat canyon floor walking with the peaks close on both sides, turn around whenever you have had enough. Add Oxbow Bend in the morning, where the Snake River slows into a wide, glassy bend that mirrors Mount Moran; it is a wildlife spot as much as a photo stop, so bring binoculars.

Using This as a Jackson Hole Itinerary
