Grand Canyon to Antelope Canyon: Drive Time, Route and Booking the Tour

Grand Canyon to Antelope Canyon, at a glance

About 143 miles from Grand Canyon Village to Antelope Canyon, about 2 hours 45 minutes without stops, east along the rim on Desert View Drive, out the East Entrance, and north on US-89 to Page. Antelope Canyon is on Navajo Nation land and a Navajo guide is mandatory, so the tour slot decides your day. Drive times are from the free OSRM router, read October 7, 2026.

The Route

Drive east from Grand Canyon Village on Desert View Drive, 23 miles along the rim with pullouts all the way, and leave the park by the East Entrance at Desert View. AZ-64 drops down to Cameron, where you turn north on US-89 past the Echo Cliffs to Page. Antelope Canyon is a few minutes east of town on AZ-98.

That's about 143 miles and 2 hours 45 minutes without stops. If you're coming from Desert View rather than the Village, it's about 115 miles and two hours to Page.

Stops Worth Making

  • Desert View Watchtower, free, at the east end of the rim. The upper floors are open 8 AM to 6 PM.
  • Grandview Point and Navajo Point on Desert View Drive. Lipan Point is closed for rebuilding from June 22 to December 23, 2026.
  • Horseshoe Bend, just south of Page. The City of Page lot costs $10 a car, NPS passes don't count, and it's open sunrise to sunset. The walk to the rim is 1.5 miles round trip.

Antelope Canyon Is Navajo-Guided Only

Upper and Lower Antelope Canyon are both on Navajo Nation land, and the Navajo Nation makes a guide mandatory at every Antelope Canyon location. There's no self-guided entry. The $15 Navajo permit is normally included in the tour price. Lower Antelope is a narrow slot you walk through on steel stairs, and its tours don't allow bags. Upper Antelope is flat and known for the beams of light that reach the floor around midday in summer. Book weeks ahead for spring and fall.

Tours stop when storms threaten. Rain miles away can flood a slot canyon in minutes, and the Southwest monsoon runs from June 15 to September 30, so a cancelled tour in summer is the system working.

The Time Zone Trap

The Grand Canyon and Page are on Arizona time, which doesn't change for daylight saving. The Navajo Nation around Antelope Canyon does. Most tours run on Arizona time, but from March to early November a phone near the canyon can pick up Navajo time and show an hour later. Set your phone to Phoenix time for the day and read the time zone on your ticket.

Make It Part of a Loop

Page sits between the Grand Canyon, Monument Valley and southern Utah, so it works best as a night on a longer trip. Our 7-day Arches, Grand Canyon and Antelope Canyon road trip runs the drive the other way, from Page to the South Rim through Desert View.
